I grew up in New Ulm, Minnesota and graduated from Martin Luther College in 1999. The Lord called me to teach third and fourth grade at Zion Lutheran School in Monroe, Michigan. I also coached volleyball, basketball, track, and was the athletic director for the school. After playing church softball with Ben Tomczak for three years and realizing he could field shortstop while I played third base, we started dating and got married after our seventh softball season when he learned to hit to the opposite field.

We moved to Duncanville, Texas (suburb of Dallas) where Ben began his pastoral ministry. Our first three children are Texans: Katherine 17, Samuel 15, Hannah 12. Rachel, 10, is our South Dakotan after Ben accepted a call to Bethel in 2013. For five years I was the volunteer Physical Education teacher and coach at Bethel. In 2019 I became an official part of the faculty when I was called to teach a variety of classes: Upper Grade Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education. I enjoy lots of outdoor activities and sports with my family (watching, discussing, studying, and playing them). Reading and listening to sports and history podcasts is also a favorite.

Teaching at Bethel Lutheran School is a wonderful blessing that I do not take for granted. We have a wonderful family atmosphere at our school where all students are valued. We strive to model Christ’s love for us in our daily lives as students and teachers. Teaching and encouraging growth in the spiritual, physical, and academic areas of a child’s development is a true joy.
